Hasbro revealed the brand new upcoming Zam Wesell figure for Black Series at NYCC. Which is certainly a very welcome addition to the line. But we have to talk about one very important thing: the likeness and sculpt which do not resemble the actress at all. Please click through for more!

Today’s livestream was mostly talk, a look at behind the scenes with a focus on how the toy photography is done. But the first full wave for the Black Series in 2027 was revealed as well! Hasbro said that going forward the first Black Series wave in a year will offer figures from the six core movies (even Hasbro is ignoring the sequels, which I find too funny), as in, each movie will have one figure. And in that spirit the first wave will have six figures from each of the six George Lucas movies!
Pre-orders launch on October 15th at 1 pm! The figures will be mainline releases and will be available on Pulse and all the regular retailers and etailers! The figures will be released in Spring 2027.
Edit: the livestream is going on and on and on and on… and 75 minutes in they revealed a brand new “definitive” Black Series Stormtrooper. New and improved articulation, this one even has a toe hinge now SHF style! He also has telescoping torso and limbs, which means you can adjust his height and thus have a more varied army of Stormtroopers with different heights. He’s also a mainline release in spring 2027. The Stormtrooper will be released on the brand new “golden” 50th anniversary cardback.
Edit 2: the livestream is STILL ONGOING….. the Stormtrooper comes in two variants, a regular golden cardback for the mainline and a traditional Kenner style cardback that is exclusive to Walmart, Target and Disney parks in the US and a regular fan channel release outside the US.
What is your opinion? Excited? I am very much looking forward to Queen Amidala who looks fantastic.

Two of this year’s The Black Series Halloween figures are currently available to order at Walmart.com:
Over the weekend Hasbro experienced somewhat of a major PR disaster. Things turned south when the new INT-4 Vintage Collection set was put up for pre-order on Pulse. In the original press release the price for the set that contains one vehicle and one new figure was given as $51.99.
But TVC collectors were met with a nasty surprise when on the Pulse shop the price for the vehicle was now $79.99.
US collectors may be interested in knowing what this set costs elsewhere, in the Euro zone the set is 107.99€ – which is ca. $125. In the UK the price is £89.99 which is ca. $122. So as usual Europeans are price gouged and collecting Star Wars in Europe has become an expensive luxury basically. At current exchange rates $79.99 is 69€ btw. Even if you add ca 20% VAT (sales tax) and other fees a price tag that translates to $125 is difficult to justify.
To say that US collectors were less than amused when they found out the new price is now basically $80 is an understatement.
So what about you? What will your course of action be? Will you refuse to buy the set? Will you wait for eventual discounts? Or do you (maybe begrudingly so) pay the price and pre-order the set regardless?
I talked about the horrible value of Hasbro Star Wars in my article where I compare Black Series with Nacelle Star Trek figures. When will it reach a point that you (or we as a community) say “enough is enough”? Is that point now? Or will we keep buying overpriced things that used to be toys for kids, but are now priced as luxury items for adults who put them on a shelf? Even if the box still says “4+”?
Where do you stand? Let us know in the comments!
Today I want to take a comparative look at the Black Series and how it measures up to other competing action figure lines on the market. I also think it may be interesting to see what other things are out there, how much they cost, what they are offering and how the Black Series fares overall when it comes to quality, price and most importantly fun factor and value.
And what better choice than to compare the two big space franchises? Star Trek vs Star Wars, this comparison never gets old. Nacelle has introduced a brand new Star Trek 6.5-ish inch action figure line to market. I thought it might be fun to see what other companies are doing with a well known IP and while Star Wars is of course overall more popular Star Trek is still a global phenomenon and beloved (despite the ongoing damage done to the IP for almost two decades now with first JJ Abrams and then Alex Kurtzman whose reign of terror will soon be over though). So how does a typical Black Series figure compare to a Nacelle Star Trek offering?
